Biography
Mario Porcu graduated in Violin at the Conservatory of Music “G. Pierluigi da Palestrina” in Cagliari, with Maestro Lando Cianchi in the school year 1975/76.
First collaborations
In the first years after graduating, he collaborated, as a violinist, with the orchestra of the Ente Lirico G. P. Luigi da Palestrina in Cagliari and with the orchestra M. Luisa De Caroli of Sassari. Subsequently, in 1976, he was auditioned and for a short period of time was a member of the orchestra of the Teatro S. Carlo in Naples, as a string violinist. In 1979, after winning a national competition, he became a permanent member of the G. P. Luigi da Palestrina orchestra in Cagliari as a violinist in a row.
Subsequent experiences
He also took part, in the periods following his recruitment, as a violinist in the orchestra of the Cagliari Opera House in 1983, in the Municipal Theatre of Lausanne (Switzerland) for the performance of an opera by Puccini, and in 1984 in a lyrical-symphonic-choral event in the Municipal Theatre of Vigo (Spain). At the same time as his activities as an orchestral player, he has collaborated with various chamber groups and small ensembles, as well as with other musical organisations in Sassari, Messina, etc.
Lectures
Immediately after graduating in violin, from the 1975/76 school year until 1984/85 he was employed as a teacher of the violin instrument in the experimental course, the only one in Sardinia, set up with instrumental teaching programmes on the model of the middle school annexed to the Cagliari Conservatory, at the “Grazia Deledda” state middle school in Oristano. In the school year 1985/86, with the transfer of tenure, he was employed at the state middle school “Ugo Foscolo” in Cagliari until the date (school year 2015) of his retirement.
During his years of activity with the orchestra, he was able to attend the Composition (Harmony and Counterpoint) class of Maestro Angelo Guaragna at the “G. P. Luigi da Palestrina” Conservatory of Music in Cagliari, acquiring a diploma in Choral Music after five years of study.
Choral Direction
In the years 2003/2006, he had the opportunity to experience directing a small polyphonic choir in Uta, in his home town, with a repertoire mainly based on the Sardinian folk genre.
Recent activities
During his years of teaching at the “U. Foscolo” middle school, he reworked and adapted various instrumental and vocal musical didactic pieces for music education classes. In recent years, he has dedicated his efforts as the author of pieces for polyphonic choir, motets, pieces from the sacred repertoire in Latin and profane in Italian, and pieces from the popular music repertoire of Sardinia. He has composed some instrumental pieces in the form of sonata for piano and violin, piano and flute, piano and oboe, harp and flute, as well as concertos for solo violin and orchestra, for piano and orchestra and other instrumental pieces.
